Original article: Contraloría solicita informe «urgente» a ministra Steinert por salida de subdirectora de inteligencia de la PDI
The Comptroller General of the Republic has requested an «urgent» report from Security Minister Trinidad Steinert amid the controversial departure of the former deputy director of PDI intelligence, Consuelo Peña.
This report, also requested from Investigations Director Eduardo Cerna, pertains to a «confidential» memo sent by Steinert to the PDI on March 13. According to reports from sources such as Radio Biobío and La Tercera, the minister allegedly requested information regarding assignments, transfers, and administrative backgrounds of police officers linked to the investigation of the «Chen Clan.»
Reports indicate that just days after receiving the response to her memo from the PDI, Detective Consuelo Peña was called to retire.
In this context, Deputy Raúl Leiva from the Socialist Party, who is a member of the Security Commission of the Chamber and instigated the Comptroller’s inquiry, asserted that Minister Steinert may have overstepped her authority by demanding information about an ongoing criminal case.
Now, both the minister and the PDI director have ten days to respond to the Comptroller’s request.
We will continue to provide updates.
