Original article: China pide a Estados Unidos liberar de inmediato a Nicolás Maduro, y a su esposa
China urged the United States to promptly free Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, a statement released by a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated on Sunday.
The spokesperson’s comments came in response to media reports suggesting that the U.S. had deployed forces on Saturday to «capture» Maduro and his wife, subsequently removing them from the country, which has drawn condemnation from several governments.
China expressed grave concern over the forced capture of Maduro and his wife by the U.S., asserting that such actions violate international law, fundamental norms in international relations, as well as the purposes and principles set forth in the UN Charter.
The spokesperson called on the United States to ensure the personal safety of Maduro and his wife, to release them immediately, cease attempts to overthrow the Venezuelan government, and resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation.
