A report from Contrapoder Chile has revealed that former Carabineros general and newly elected congressman for the Republican Party, Enrique Bassaletti, receives a double pension from the police institution. Combined with his parliamentary salary, this amounts to over $12 million monthly.

The findings are based on records from the Dirección de Previsión de Carabineros de Chile (Dipreca), accessed by Contrapoder Chile through transparency requests.

These records show that Bassaletti receives a monthly pension of $4,893,337 as a former Carabineros general, plus an additional pension of $561,580 for having been a professor for Carabineros, which will start in September 2025.

«Thus, the newly elected congressman collects a total of $5,454,917 from both pensions,» states the Contrapoder Chile report.
