Los Ros Regional Government Vows Tough Sanctions After El Ciudadano Investigation into ‘Vida en Comunidad GORE 2025’

In a public statement, the Los R 1dos Regional Government responded to El Ciudadano’s reporting on alleged irregularities in the ‘Vida en Comunidad GORE 2025’ fund, a program that, among other services, provides eyeglasses to low-income residents through neighborhood councils.

According to the report, former GORE official Eduardo Fagalde Ampuero allegedly leveraged his insider knowledge after leaving a management post to set up a scheme linking an active public employee with a private optical store, defrauding the state for millions.

The complaint was filed with the Office of the Comptroller General on August 29, 2025. The Los R 1dos government confirmed it has already received information requests from the Regional Prosecutor’s Office as part of an investigation involving a former senior official from the previous administration over potential subsidy fraud and other crimes.

\»As an institution, we have supplied all requested documentation and actively cooperated, reaffirming our full willingness to clarify the facts under investigation. In parallel, an internal summary inquiry has been ordered to review the 2025 Vida en Comunidad Fund process, with the aim of determining whether irregularities occurred and clearly establishing any corresponding responsibilities,\» the statement reads.

\»The Regional Government will be strict and firm in internal oversight, because we understand that compliance with the law and probity are nonnegotiable principles. If administrative faults or irregularities are confirmed, they will be sanctioned with all the severity the law allows, without exceptions or leniency,\» the Los R 1dos government added.

The statement also emphasizes that these actions are \»absolutely unacceptable and directly undermine public trust and the integrity of the public service.\»

\»This new development adds to the case of the former head of the Division of Development and Industries under former Intendente C 29sar Asenjo, who is currently formally charged with fraud against the state, reinforcing the gravity of the facts and pointing to a possible corruption network and a profound lack of ethics and probity among leadership from the previous administration,\» the Los R 1dos Regional Government emphasized.
