Original article: “Salvaje acto de agresión”: Roger Waters lanza dura condena a Trump por el ataque a Venezuela y el secuestro de Maduro
British musician Roger Waters has once again used his voice—and celebrity status—for a global political cause. On Saturday, in a nearly two-minute video shared on social media, the former Pink Floyd leader denounced the U.S. attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, calling the events a «savage act of aggression.»
In the recording, Waters addressed Donald Trump’s administration directly, with an unvarnished message: «For God’s sake, Venezuela is a sovereign nation. Hands off Venezuela!» He asserted that the world watches in dismay what he characterized as an onslaught by the U.S. «empire» against «our brothers, sisters, and comrades» in Venezuela, which he described as a «great and wonderful expression of the Bolivarian Revolution.»
Waters Condemns U.S. Attack on Venezuela and Demands Respect for Sovereignty
In the video, Waters claimed that a vast majority of people reject these actions and urged the U.S. military and government to respect the «sovereign right» of the Venezuelan people. He encapsulated the tone of his denunciation with a striking statement: «For God’s sake, stop acting like children in a schoolyard. This is our world, not yours.”
Waters concluded his message with a clear commitment: «I am not a man of prayer, but I am an active man, and I will do everything in my power to support Venezuela, which is a sovereign country and should be left in peace by the northern gringo cop.» With this phrase, he not only condemned the aggression but also positioned himself for action and political solidarity, insisting that Venezuela must be respected as a sovereign nation and that U.S. intervention cannot be normalized as part of the landscape.
This is Not the First Time Waters Supports Maduro
Waters’ stance is not new. According to shared background, during the 2024 elections, he urged voters to support Maduro just days before the polls. He has also discredited opposition leader María Corina Machado, accusing her of wanting to «hand over her country» to the Chevron corporation.
For Waters, Venezuela is a victim of «imperial aggression» linked to corporate interests, particularly oil, and he views the Bolivarian Revolution as a sovereign process that must be protected.
As expected, his comments have drawn criticism for his stance on Maduro and for previous statements on other international conflicts. However, this time the message was unequivocal: Waters demands respect for Venezuelan sovereignty and directly targets Washington’s interventionism.
