The Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation of Chile (MinCiencia) and the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technologies, and Innovation of Mexico (Secihti) signed a letter of intent this week in Cuernavaca to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

«The agreement aims to promote scientific research, technological development, and the training of highly specialized personnel, with the goal of strengthening the innovation ecosystems in both countries,» the ministry said in a statement.

The initiative proposes to create new collaboration pathways between academic institutions and research centers in both countries, as well as to promote joint programs that facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices.

After the signing, Minister Aldo Valle emphasized that this agreement «comes at a crucial time as artificial intelligence has taken on a central role in the world and in the region, generating technological, social, and environmental impacts that require moving forward responsibly, protecting fundamental rights, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring that technology serves the well-being of society.»

By exploring joint projects, sharing methodologies, and coordinating training and transfer programs, Chile and Mexico are establishing themselves as strategic partners in building a regional AI ecosystem, the Secretary of State reiterated.

Meanwhile, Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, the Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation of Mexico, asserted that Secihti aims to build a region in Latin America and the Caribbean that is «sovereign in knowledge, innovation, and technology, capable of facing global challenges through cooperation and promoting social and environmental well-being.»

In this regard, she recalled that Mexico is currently advancing in the construction of Coatlicue, the most powerful public supercomputer in Latin America, which will be connected to international networks such as RedCLARA, strengthening technological sovereignty in the Latin American region.

«This strategic alliance envisions building an interconnected Latin American scientific community that shares infrastructure, talent, and results,» stated Rosaura Ruiz.

Innova Fest

As part of his visit to Mexico, Minister Aldo Valle participated in the «Innova Fest Latam 2025,» an event that brings together scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and authorities from 22 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.
