In honor of International Human Rights Day, the Santiago Press Circle invites the community to a screening of the award-winning documentary «Torres Against Oblivion,» directed by journalist and filmmaker Mariana Sandina.

The event will take place on Wednesday, December 10, at 6:00 PM at the Teatro Camilo Henríquez, Amunátegui 31, Santiago.

This short film offers an intimate exploration of memory, connecting the memories of political imprisonment with the emotional experiences of a daughter who grew up under the shadow of the dictatorship during a negotiated transition to democracy that deeply affected Chile’s political landscape.

The narrative progresses to the Social Outburst of 2019, where both perspectives intertwine in a profound reflection as an act of resistance.

Beyond the historical record and the multitude of sources, the documentary delves into the more complex and human realm of emotions and silences.

“Mariana Sandina, daughter of Guillermo Torres Gaona, a journalist and former vice president of our institution who was detained and disappeared by agents of the dictatorship following the 1973 coup, highlights that her audiovisual search not only reconstructs events but also seeks to understand what her father felt, revealing emotional bonds and shared wounds,” stated representatives from the Santiago Press Circle.

The film emphasizes the contemporary relevance of memory exercises, creating spaces for empathy and reminding us that historical memory remains contested in a context where attempts to erase, distort, or even vindicate human rights violations persist.

Following the screening of the short film, a discussion will take place featuring the author Mariana Sandina along with Guillermo Torres, Jorge Montealegre, and Oriana Zorrilla.
