Original article: La soberanía de Nuestra América se defiende en Cuba
The Latin American spirit resonates stronger than ever today. It has emerged on a global stage, reminding the world of our strength, our pride, and our unstoppable culture. This very spirit of struggle and dignity goes by one name, a beacon that has illuminated our darkest moments: Cuba.
Just 90 miles from the most powerful empire in history, a worthy island has withstood the test of time—not for just a few years, but for over six decades. Cuba stands as living proof that sovereignty must be defended, and that a united people are an unbreakable fortress. It is a nation that refused to be disciplined, neither during the Cold War nor during the years when the end of history was proclaimed.
This resistance comes at a brutal cost: the blockade. It is not merely an embargo; it is an economic siege lasting more than 60 years—a collective punishment measured in years of an entire nation’s production. It is an undeclared war intended to subdue a people through hunger and to inflict effects similar to those we have already witnessed in Gaza.
And despite it all… look at what they have achieved! With this criminal blockade on their shoulders, Cuba shines. It is a world leader in health, education, and sports. Its human development indicators challenge those of much wealthier nations in the region. And its greatest export is solidarity: thousands of white coats saving lives in the most forgotten corners of the planet. Recently, 32 heroes even gave their lives defending Venezuela’s sovereignty just weeks ago.
Today, the blockade intensifies viciously under a crisis-stricken U.S. government, where Donald Trump aims to set the world ablaze to divert media attention from the Epstein case and the criminal, pedophilic practices of the American elite. However, the tide of solidarity is growing. Mexico and China are already sending humanitarian aid. Now is the time for all of Our America to take action.
To Chile and its President Gabriel Boric, we say: If solidarity is a principle, it must be for everyone. If there was sensitivity for Ukraine, how can there be none for Cuba, which provided refuge to so many Chileans during Pinochet’s dictatorship?
To the Front Amplio supporters, who showcased Che’s image in their campaigns and proudly photographed themselves in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución: it is time to stand in solidarity with Cuba, not to apologize! Demand humanitarian aid from your government NOW. Let yesterday’s poster be today’s foreign policy.
On the front lines of Cuba, not only is their right to exist being defended. The defense of Latin American integration, the sovereignty of our Great Homeland, and the right of all peoples to choose their destiny free from external tyrannies is also at stake. This is not just about helping Cuba; it is about defending ourselves.
Cuba is not alone. Their resistance is our resistance. Their dignity is our dignity. Let us intensify the solidarity! Not only from the people but also from governments. The sovereignty of Our America is defended in Cuba.
