Original article: Más de $9 mil millones en rendiciones rechazadas: Gobernador René Saffirio inicia recuperación de fondos públicos en La Araucanía
Following information published by a news outlet regarding the management of funds from the Regional Government of La Araucanía, Governor René Saffirio announced the commencement of a process to recover funds tied to rejected accounting statements. These funds were part of an economic revitalization program executed by the Regional Productive Development Agency between 2022 and 2023.
The regional authority highlighted that over $9 billion was allocated to 327 companies in the region: «90% of the accounting statements for these funds were rejected or questioned, which clearly raises doubts about the destination of those resources,» stated the governor.
In response, Saffirio noted that steps are being taken to determine potential legal action and administrative responsibilities.
«We are conducting a thorough analysis of all available information to define appropriate legal actions,» he emphasized.
«Additionally, we have initiated the recovery process for these funds. Our sole focus is to safeguard public resources and pursue accountability, as every peso allocated must translate into benefits for the citizens,» Saffirio asserted.
He also stressed that the main goal of the current administration is to protect public funds and ensure their recovery, aiming to redirect them to urgent priorities in the region.
«We want to emphasize that recovering these funds is crucial for addressing urgent regional priorities, such as reducing healthcare waiting lists, improving roads, strengthening access to potable water, and supporting equipment for police forces,» explained La Araucanía’s top authority.
