Outrage in Coquimbo Over Leaked Excel Sheet Ranking Public Officials by Political Bias

There is significant discontent and indignation in Coquimbo following the leak of an Excel document that contains a series of «ratings» for officials from the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) in the region. Senator Daniel Núñez has labeled the situation as «political persecution».

According to the local media El Observatodo, the document was reportedly attached by mistake in a mass email «from a public office to officials of a ministry,» and includes derogatory comments regarding the supposed political orientation of the individuals evaluated, «above their technical competencies or job performance».

The spreadsheet is structured with columns labeled ‘Department’, ‘Name’, ‘Comment’, and ‘Recommendation (Our People)’, and it features a repeated use of politically charged terms, including expressions like ‘leftist’, ‘not anymore’, or more disparaging judgments,» the note from El Observatodo adds.

Among the labels found in the document are ‘NEITHER HERE NOR THERE LEFTIST’, ‘GOOD BUT LEFTIST’, ‘BAD FOR THE JOB, DISORDERLY LEFTIST’, and ‘THE MOST LEFTIST OF ALL, TERRIBLE, MUST GO’.

Additionally, the document includes names of potential replacements for those categorized as «leftists».

In this regard, the report from El Observatodo indicates that «according to preliminary information, the document may have been created by actors linked to the ruling party, with the aim of identifying positions to replace with profiles closer to the current administration. However, the authorship and the exact context of its creation have not been officially confirmed».

Legal Actions

Following the news, Senator Daniel Núñez (PC) requested explanations from the Minister of Public Works, Martín Arrau, «regarding this political persecution against officials of the MOP in Coquimbo».

«They rate a worker as ‘good but leftist’, which shows that capability does not matter, only the goal of placing ‘their own’. I will study legal actions,» stated the parliamentarian.
