Former Republican Constitutional Advisor Sentenced for Repeated Sexual Abuse of Two Teenagers

The Oral Criminal Court in Iquique delivered a guilty verdict on Monday, April 27, against Sebastián Parraguez, the former constitutional advisor of the Republican Party, for multiple counts of surprise sexual abuse committed between March and June 2024, against two adolescents in the Alto Hospicio area.

In a unanimous decision, the court – consisting of judges Francisco Fuenzalida Jeldes (president), Gloria Calvo Godoy, and Marcos Soto Lecaros (reporting judge) – established both the occurrence of the offenses and the culpable participation of the defendant.

«The court is convinced, beyond a reasonable doubt, that on an unspecified day and time in March 2024, during the morning, the victim, a 15-year-old student, was in a classroom at Rupanic School in Alto Hospicio when the accused, taking advantage of his position as a chemistry and biology teacher, sat next to the teenager and surprised her by touching her legs,» the ruling states.

«Furthermore, on the afternoon of June 13, 2024, the accused went with a group of students, including the victim, to a mall in Iquique to purchase supplies for the school’s anniversary. During this visit, he seized the opportunity while the student was in front of a shelf to position himself behind her and unexpectedly groped her buttocks,» the judicial document notes.

Later, «on the afternoon of June 17, 2024, inside Rupanic School, the accused approached the second victim, a 17-year-old student whose stomach was exposed due to her shirt being tied at the back, to scold her and unexpectedly slid a hand under her clothing to touch her abdomen, leaving her in shock,» the ruling explains.

«Afterward, the teacher left the area but returned almost immediately, pulled down the girl’s skirt, and said: ‘You pull it down or I will,'» adds the Iquique court’s verdict.

The sentencing communication hearing – which will be written by Judge Soto Lecaros – is scheduled for 12:50 PM on Thursday, May 7.
