Global Sumud Flotilla Reports Israeli Military Interception and Threats in International Waters

The Global Sumud Flotilla, with seven Chilean nationals onboard, reported a series of attacks and intercepts by Israeli military boats on Wednesday, April 29th, activating emergency protocols for participants in this humanitarian initiative.

Shortly before 18:55 UTC, several vessels from the Flotilla reported radio communication disruptions while navigating near Greek territorial waters in the southwest. Minutes later, a significant number of Israeli military drones, boats, and ships were sighted in the area.

Subsequently, the Flotilla communicated via social media that “our boats were approached by military speedboats, self-identified as ‘Israel’, pointing lasers and semi-automatic assault weapons, ordering participants to the front of the boats and to get on their hands and knees.”

“Communication has been lost with 11 vessels, and Israeli media reports that 7 boats have been intercepted,” the Flotilla’s latest update stated, urging governments to act “immediately to protect the flotilla, demanding Israel be held accountable for these blatant violations of international law and the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.”

The Global Sumud also called upon all national delegations, friends, family, and supporters of Palestine to contact the Greek government and embassies in their home countries to request support and assistance in ensuring the safety of the flotilla and its participants.
