MP Tello Condemns Government’s Stance in «Miscellaneous Law» Debate, Labels It Insulting to Oppose Reconstruction
Following the conclusion of the session on Tuesday, May 19, where the so-called «miscellaneous law» proposed by President Kast was debated, MP Carolina Tello from the Front Amplio criticized the government’s approach, calling it «insulting that they attempt to suggest that questioning this project is equivalent to being against reconstruction.»
«What we heard today in defense of this project is frankly absurd. It has been attempted to promote the notion that questioning this initiative means being against reconstruction, and that, I want to make clear, is simply false,» stated the parliamentarian in a video shared on her social media platforms.
«No one is against rebuilding homes for Chile. What we reject is the exploitation of the pain of families affected by the emergency to push forward a project that ultimately benefits only large corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent in Chile, while thousands of individuals and families continue to await real and concrete solutions,» MP Tello remarked.
The legislator announced that «for this reason, we will vote against it, and we hope that tomorrow (May 20), the deputies act with conscience and think about the people, the most vulnerable families, the middle class, artisanal fishermen, and small businesses, because this does not benefit them.»
«This is not a reconstruction project; it is a misguided initiative that will end up harming Chile, undermining the State’s ability to support those who need it the most today: in hospitals and public schools,» concluded the Front Amplio parliamentarian.
When Will the Project Be Voted On?
According to the bulletin from the Chamber, following the debate session on the initiative held on Tuesday, May 19, the so-called «national reconstruction project» (bulletin 18216) is set to be voted on Wednesday, May 20, starting at 10:00 AM until all matters are resolved.
The initial vote will be on the idea of legislating. If approved in general, it will proceed to a vote on the articles and on the admissible amendments, which include 118 proposals consisting of renewed amendments and separate votes.
