Congress Offices and Warehouses Raided in Investigation of Ex-Udi Deputy Juan Fuenzalida: Possible Tax Fraud Linked to Lavín León Case

The Metropolitan East Prosecutor’s Office conducted a raid on June 25 at the former office and warehouse of ex-Udi Deputy Juan Fuenzalida (featured in the photo) within the National Congress, as part of an investigation into tax fraud emerging from a new aspect of the case involving former congressman Joaquín Lavín León.

This information was confirmed by the prosecuting body, which also revealed that Fuenzalida’s residence in Santiago was searched, alongside other actions taken in Coquimbo.

In statements to Canal 13, Prosecutor Constanza Encina said, «I can confirm that today a search and seizure operation was carried out at the National Congress premises. This is an ongoing investigation against former Deputy Juan Manuel Fuenzalida, and we were able to collect emails and electronic devices.»

Encina added that the operation took place simultaneously at both the Congress and Fuenzalida’s home in Santiago, as well as in Coquimbo. «The investigation is currently in progress,» she stated.

Finally, the prosecutor clarified that this investigation is separate from that of ex-deputy Joaquín Lavín León: «They are on different paths,» she assured.

Regarding this matter, Canal 13 reported that this new aspect emerged during the investigation against Lavín León: Fuenzalida was close to him and reportedly contracted the social networking service Social Tazk, promoted by the circle of the former legislator, who is currently in preventive custody facing various charges.

«Fuenzalida may also have taken actions that could constitute tax fraud through parliamentary assignments,» the television station’s report concluded.

Juan Manuel Fuenzalida served as a UDI deputy for the Coquimbo Region for two terms: 2018-2022 and 2022-2026. We will continue to provide updates.
