Citizen Movement Launches National Tour from Biobío to Establish Political Party
With the goal of strengthening its organization and gaining new support, the emerging political and social movement spearheaded by Valparaíso Governor Rodrigo Mundaca; La Cisterna Mayor Joel Olmos; Puente Alto Mayor Matías Toledo; and Independent Senator Fabiola Campillai held its inaugural event this weekend in the Biobío Region. This marks the beginning of a national tour aimed at progressing towards its formation as a political party.
The event took place at the Petrox Union headquarters in Concepción, gathering nearly 50 social and political leaders from various municipalities in the Greater Concepción – Talcahuano, Coronel, Hualpén, Penco, Tomé, and Concepción – alongside representatives from Ñuble and La Araucanía.
The meeting provided a platform to share community organization experiences, exchange lessons among leaders from different regions, and discuss the guiding principles of this new political project, which seeks to represent real Chile from the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions.
Former Biobío regional councilor Javier Sandoval emphasized the desire to build a new political tool. “Like everywhere in the country, our friends from Biobío feel the need for greater coordination to face the political challenges of the moment. We need a party-movement that brings together experiences originating from the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions, and that strengthens social organization.”
Meanwhile, Hualpén councilor Matías Rifo valued the interaction of experiences between leaders from various areas of the country. “We experienced a very important day to learn about organizational experiences developed in different places in Chile. This strengthens our local work and demonstrates that it is possible to build an alternative from the communities.”
During the event, Governor Rodrigo Mundaca emphasized that the project aims to create a political alternative connected to the everyday realities of individuals and announced that the tour will continue in various parts of the country. “We have the capacity to change history if we can build a collective effort. We will keep traveling across Chile, meeting with social organizations and leaders in every region to develop this project from the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions, because that is where real Chile lies.”
Lawyer Javier Pineda, part of Senator Fabiola Campillai’s team, stated that the challenge is to consolidate a nationwide organization.
“There is an evident need to coordinate those who have driven transformations from their communities. This process seeks to create a political organization that emerges from the experience of the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions, and that brings the voice of real Chile to institutions.”
La Cisterna Mayor Joel Olmos evaluated the day positively and highlighted the citizen nature of the initiative. “The turnout confirms that there is a shared willingness to build a political tool arising from the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions. We want to offer an alternative deeply rooted in people’s daily experiences, capable of representing real Chile and opening a new path for those who feel unrepresented by traditional politics. Social change also arises from simplicity and everyday life.”
With this activity in the Biobío Region, the movement has begun its national rollout, which will continue over the coming weeks in Antofagasta, Atacama, Coquimbo, Ñuble, La Araucanía, Los Ríos, and other regions, with the purpose of consolidating its organization and advancing toward its formation as a political party. The goal is to build a citizen force with national presence, rooted in the neighborhoods, municipalities, and regions, to represent real Chile in institutions.
