Partial Nighttime House Arrest for Chillán Viejo Mayor Accused of Rape, Sexual Abuse, and Threats

The Chillán Guarantee Court has placed Jorge del Pozo Pastene, the mayor of Chillán Viejo, under the precautionary measure of «partial nighttime house arrest» and a prohibition from approaching the victims. He is accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of committing the crimes of rape, surprise sexual abuse, threats, and solicitation of persons as a public employee.

According to the prosecution, these offenses occurred against municipal employees between 2020 and 2024.

The Chief Prosecutor of Chillán, Sergio Pérez, explained that the rape, involving the use of force, took place while del Pozo was serving as a councilman in Chillán Viejo.

«Specifically, taking advantage of his position, in October 2020, he summoned a victim to his home under the pretext of discussing work-related issues,» the prosecutor stated.

Additionally, he is charged with making threats in November 2022, while he was already acting as mayor of Chillán Viejo. At that time, he intimidated a different employee by threatening to dismiss her for refusing to dance with him at a work celebration.

Furthermore, in January 2023, «the accused engaged in significant sexual misconduct against the same victim in his office, which was repeated in September of the same year during another work-related celebration,» the prosecutor reported.

During the formalization hearing, Judge Paulina Rodríguez Zapata approved the precautionary measures requested by the prosecution, deeming them «appropriate and proportional» to the aims of the procedure. She also set a three-month period for the investigation.
