Original article: Cuando la IA entra al genocidio: niña de 8 años muere bajo fuego remoto israelí en Gaza
The horror of genocide unfolding in the Gaza Strip has taken on a new technological dimension, where decisions to kill appear to have been handed over to machines. Tala Jomaa Mohammad Abu Matar was just 8 years old when her life was cut short while sitting in the makeshift tent her family calls home in the Al Nur wal Huda refugee camp, east of Bureij, in the heart of the Palestinian enclave. Her death resulted from an attack, reportedly from «automatic fire» emitted by turrets located along the so-called «yellow line.»
This blurry boundary, which the Israeli military alters at will to expand occupied territory, has turned the lives of Palestinians into a daily game of Russian roulette. The tents and shelters where families survive unknowingly lie within zones of systematic extermination. Recently, Israeli troops introduced a second demarcation, dubbed the «orange line,» adding further confusion to an already lethal scenario. Thus, the only warning of danger for those attempting to return home comes from machine-gun fire or the explosion of bombs falling from the sky.
According to the digital outlet Naiz, what makes this killing particularly alarming is that the weapon that took Tala’s life may have been controlled not by a soldier, but by an artificial intelligence system.
Several Palestinian media outlets have documented that these remote-operated weapons are sometimes guided by artificial intelligence systems, effectively turning them into robotic killers.
«If direct soldier intervention has already become child hunts—evidenced by the bullets found in the heads and vital organs of corpses, the robotization of the slaughter makes it entirely random,» warned Naiz.
The numbers are devastating: nearly 21,300 children have died in Gaza due to Israeli attacks, which have intensified since October 7, 2023. Tala’s case adds to the statistics that the world seems to have normalized, where childhood has become a target of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people.
Israel Utilizes Remote-Controlled Weapons in Attacks on West Bank
However, the technology for killing is not confined to Gaza. In the West Bank, Israeli forces have installed the same remote-controlled weapons in surveillance towers in the al-Arub refugee camp, where tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber bullets are fired at Palestinian demonstrators. In Hebron, the Bab Al-Zawiya checkpoint, located in a densely populated area, operates with the same system.
Israel has enhanced its arsenal with robots, remote-controlled dogs, and old military vehicles retrofitted as mobile bombs, capable of demolishing entire buildings and the civilians nearby.
The genocidal strategy of the Zionist regime, applied for nearly three years, has included the use of Artificial Intelligence tools like Habsora, Lavender, or Gospel, designed to identify thousands of targets, whether homes or individuals, reported Naiz.
These systems operate with a margin of error that accounts for the death of dozens, even hundreds, of civilians for each supposed «Hamas member» or suspicious building targeted. The robotization of war has dehumanized the conflict to unimaginable extremes, where an 8-year-old girl can be eliminated by an algorithm that will never comprehend the value of a life.
