Prodemu Workers Face Salary Delays Again, Demand Urgent Action from Minister of Women’s Affairs

For the second time this year, employees of the Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Women (Prodemu) are experiencing delays in their salaries, a situation that the National Union describes as «institutional abandonment» due to ongoing administrative hurdles that the government of José Antonio Kast has yet to address.

The public complaint, issued through an official statement, not only demands the immediate payment of July salaries but also directly calls upon Minister of Women and Gender Equity, Judith Marín, to take charge of a crisis that they assert was foreseen months in advance.

The National Union of Prodemu expressed its «deepest indignation» at witnessing the recurrence of this critical situation, despite having raised responsible and repeated warnings regarding «the risks of leaving unresolved the administrative issues affecting institutional financing,»

«We held meetings with various authorities, provided evidence, and proposed concrete alternatives to prevent the very situation we now face. However, our warnings were ignored.» they stated.

The root of this crisis, according to the union, lies in an administrative requirement that «has proven incapable of responding to the legal nature of Prodemu,» as it continues to demand a performance bond from the state in order to transfer funds already allocated under the Budget Law.

The union clarified that the foundation is not a private entity serving particular interests, but a public institution in its purpose, financing, and social function, created by the state to implement public policies benefiting women in Chile.

They denounced that the persistence of this demand, without political will to resolve it, is «suffocating the institutional operation» and causing direct harm to the local teams that support daily operations.

«The Institutional Abandonment of Prodemu Can No Longer Be Diagnosed«

From the union’s perspective, it is unacceptable that those implementing public policies should bear the consequences of administrative decisions that the state is fully empowered to correct. The criticism deepens with the denunciation that the crisis is normalized or managed only after it has erupted, rather than taking preventive measures that they have persistently requested. This behavioral pattern, they warn, illustrates a lack of foresight and a disregard that directly impacts the labor rights of hundreds of workers who «once again find themselves uncertain about when they will receive their July salaries, despite fully meeting their work obligations.»

The direct call to the Minister of Women is clear: «The institutional abandonment of Prodemu no longer admits further diagnoses or explanations; it requires concrete and urgent decisions.»

In the statement, they insist that the authority should assume the leadership that this crisis demands, providing stability to the foundation and safeguarding the rights of its staff. They also request that parliamentarians fulfill their oversight role regarding the seriousness of these issues, noting that this is not an isolated or unforeseeable problem, but a situation that was timely flagged with proposals that were not addressed with the urgency needed.

The workers of Prodemu maintain that their right to timely payment cannot be subordinated to administrative hurdles that the state is obligated to resolve. Therefore, they are demanding an immediate solution for the unpaid salaries and, above all, «a permanent solution that prevents this unacceptable episode from recurring.»
