Original article: Gobierno de Abelardo De la Espriella autoriza a EEUU a lanzar operaciones militares conjuntas en suelo colombiano
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced from Panama that Colombia’s President, Abelardo De la Espriella, has authorized the United States to conduct joint military operations on Colombian soil as part of its official entry into the «Americas Counter Cartel Coalition» driven by the Trump administration.
Hegseth’s remarks were widely reported in international media: «Through the newly inaugurated President (…), Colombia has formally requested that the Department of War join in its fight against narcoterrorism, authorizing joint military operations to eliminate terrorists and their networks,» stated Hegseth.
«Narcoterrorists, gang members, drug and human traffickers, designated terrorist organizations, ISIS, and Al Qaeda in the western hemisphere. They are not different, and must be treated as such,» the U.S. official added during the meeting of the Coalition in Panama.
During the same event, Hegseth «strongly» reiterated the U.S. call to its «drug-fighting allies» to withdraw from the International Criminal Court.
