On Monday, Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna held a high-level meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng as part of the commemoration of over five decades of diplomatic ties.

During the meeting, both officials agreed to enhance commercial exchanges and investments, while outlining a collaborative roadmap that includes strategic areas such as security, tourism, and scientific development.

With a market of over 100 million people and annual economic growth exceeding 8%, Vietnam is recognized as Chile’s most significant trading partner in Southeast Asia. The data supports this trend: by 2025, bilateral trade is projected to reach $2.1 billion, marking a 39% increase compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, Chile has emerged as Vietnam’s third most important commercial destination in Latin America, highlighting the maturity and potential of a relationship that extends beyond economic interests.

Beyond trade, the agenda between the two officials addressed cooperation on security, particularly in crime prevention, and explored avenues to strengthen ties in science, technology, and innovation. Discussions included initiatives focused on training specialized human capital and developing tools related to artificial intelligence.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dialogue concluded two days of meetings for the chancellor in the Asian nation, which included a working lunch with his Vietnamese counterpart, Lê Hoài Trung, to assess the upcoming decade of shared growth.
