Following Milei’s Insults, Accredited Journalists Report Vandalism and Theft in Casa Rosada Press Room

Accredited Argentine journalists at Casa Rosada reported on Monday, August 31, an incident of theft and vandalism that occurred in the presidential palace’s press room. This event follows a series of verbal attacks and insults directed at journalists by President Javier Milei, who even labeled them as «terrorists.»

«Theft against journalists in Casa Rosada. We arrived in the press room to find the drawers open and our belongings scattered,» journalist Fabián Waldman posted on the social media platform X.

Waldman further stated, «Before LLA (La Libertad Avanza, Milei’s party), we had the keys and could open and close the room. Now the security is worse than before.»

According to several Argentine media outlets, when the first journalists arrived at the government headquarters around 8 a.m., they discovered that their desks had been searched over the weekend. The last ones had left the premises the previous Friday after 7 p.m.

This situation raises significant concern, as the press room is located within a government building, which is expected to adhere to strict security protocols. Additionally, only individuals within President Javier Milei’s close circle have access to this area.

Moreover, aside from the theft of some packages of yerba mate, boxes of milk, and food that some journalists kept on-site, the intruders took nothing else.

«Initial inspections suggested no signs of tampering with computers or the removal of work materials; however, some cartons of milk and packages of yerba mate that the reporters kept there were missing,» reported Telesur.

Currently, both the Military House and the Federal Police have begun investigations into the incident, while the accredited journalists await a response from the Communication area of Casa Rosada.

«We renew our demand for respect for professional work, historical conditions, and the safety of accredited press workers at Casa de Gobierno,» stated the Buenos Aires Press Union (SiPreBA).

In addition, the Argentine Association of Journalistic Entities (ADEPA) called for an investigation to clarify the facts and determine the circumstances and responsibilities involved.
