Demand for Resignation: Arica Transport Minister Accused of Coercion and Threats Against DGAC Official

The government has confirmed the resignation of Arica’s Regional Transport Minister, Patricio Löhr Tapia (Republican Party, in the photo), following allegations of coercion and threats against an official from the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC).

Reports from various national media indicate that the Minister attempted to facilitate the entry of employees from LohrAviation FBO Chile SpA, a company he founded in 2018, into the Chacalluta airport terminal, which is disclosed in his Statement of Interests and Assets.

El Mostrador reported that the National Association of DGAC Officials accused Löhr of having called the personal phone of the head of Security and Accreditation to request that employees from his company be allowed entry into the airport terminal, despite LohrAviation lacking a valid operational permit.

According to the allegations, after the official denied his request, Löhr allegedly warned that he could pursue legal action against anyone who obstructed access.

In related news, regional outlet El Morrocotudo reported that with this resignation, five members of President Kast’s regional cabinet have now left their positions in Arica and Parinacota.

The same outlet also highlighted that Löhr currently serves as the president of the Regional Supreme Tribunal of the Republican Party in Arica.
