Socialist lawmakers Daniel Manouchehri and Daniella Cicardini have released a viral video directly challenging President José Antonio Kast regarding his connections to Fernando Cerimedo, who is linked to the use of bot networks, fake accounts, and misinformation campaigns associated with the right in Latin America.
The legislators highlight how a supposed attack on social media can appear to be merely an individual opinion while being systematically echoed across dozens or even hundreds of accounts.
In the video, the two politicians assert that «the problem is no longer digital; it is democratic» when a network of bots «pretends to be hundreds of citizens to defame, intimidate, and spread lies,» as Cicardini states in the audiovisual piece.
Manouchehri questions in the video, «Fernando Cerimedo, one of the operators of these networks, is detained outside of Chile. He will not respond, so President Kast must answer. Does he know Cerimedo? Who hired him? Who paid him?»
This challenge adds to the complaint filed in 2025 by Manouchehri and Cicardini with the Public Ministry concerning alleged harassment networks, misinformation, and coordinated accounts linked to the Republican Party, which sought to investigate potential cybercrimes, criminal associations, or other offenses tied to digital campaigns against political opponents.
Finally, Cicardini and Manouchehri conclude the video by stating, «Democracy should not be managed from the shadows. Chile deserves the truth.» Both lawmakers are hopeful that the Chamber of Deputies will approve the formation of an investigative committee on this matter and are urging the prosecution to investigate the reported issues.
