Kast Advocates for Justice, Truth, and Peace, but CIP Demands Clear Condemnation of Gaza Genocide

The Palestinian Information Center (CIP) expressed concern over the participation of José Antonio Kast in the Tefilá for Chile, a ceremony organized by the Jewish Community of Chile held at the Israelite Circle Synagogue in Santiago, Lo Barnechea. In a public statement, the organization questioned how the president could call for prayer for progress while advocating for justice, truth, and peace as fundamental principles, yet still fail to “issue a clear condemnation” of the genocide occurring in Gaza.

The Palestinian organization clarified that it fully respects the freedom of religion and the right of all faith communities to express their traditions and beliefs.

However, they described it as “particularly contradictory” for this call for justice, truth, and peace to occur during a ceremony organized by a body whose leadership has made statements denying the existence of genocide in Gaza, perpetrated by the regime of Benjamin Netanyahu.

In this context, the CIP recalled that in August 2025, the president of the Jewish Community of Chile, Alfredo Misraji, rejected this characterization, calling it a “banalization of language”.

In light of these points, the statement highlighted the grave situation in Gaza, noting that “tens of thousands of Palestinians have been massacred, much of the population displaced, and vast areas destroyed”. Furthermore, the organization cited support from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which concluded that Israeli authorities and forces have committed and continue to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Given these circumstances, it was asserted that “it is politically and morally unacceptable for the President of Chile to continue without issuing a clear and categorical condemnation”.

The CIP warned that the president’s stance takes on even greater seriousness given the tangible signals his administration has sent towards Israel. It noted that in May, Kast held a bilateral meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and later, Chile’s ambassador in Israel, Gabriel Zaliasnik, accused the Palestinian community in our country of “manipulating the numbers” and linked some of its members to “radicalization”.

For the Palestinian Information Center, such declarations, made as a representative of the Chilean state, “stigmatize a community deeply rooted in Chile”, which is why they demand a clear response from La Moneda.

In its public statement, the organization directly called on the president to be “consistent with the principles he publicly advocated”.

They urged Kast to take a clear position on Palestine, “unequivocally condemn the genocide in Gaza, demand its cessation, and defend the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to live in freedom, dignity, and self-determination”.

In conclusion, the CIP reiterated that “the consistency between the proclaimed values and political decisions is essential in the face of a humanitarian crisis” of the magnitude currently being experienced in the Palestinian enclave under constant Israeli aggression.
