Manouchehri and Cicardini Challenge Kast to Condemn the Coup and Pinochet’s Dictatorship

Socialist Party representatives, Deputy Daniel Manouchehri and Senator Daniella Cicardini, called on President José Antonio Kast to unequivocally condemn the Coup d’État and the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in a video recorded outside La Moneda, released on September 11.

«They would do it again, and they lack the courage to say Never Again,» the lawmakers expressed at the beginning of the clip, criticizing sectors that justify the democratic breakdown of 1973 and shy away from denouncing the Dictatorship.

In the video, Manouchehri directly confronts the president. «President Kast: you said Pinochet would vote for you. Today you are the President of all Chileans,» he pointed out.

The video recalls the bombing of La Moneda, the overthrow of President Salvador Allende, and the 17 years of dictatorship, highlighting the victims of executions, forced disappearances, political imprisonment, torture, and exile.

This challenge comes after Kast confirmed that there will be no special event for the commemoration and that he will spend the date in the Los Ríos Region.

«Do you condemn the Coup d’État and the dictatorship without excuses? Chile awaits your response,» the lawmakers emphasized at the video’s conclusion.

In their post, Manouchehri and Cicardini added: «Kast still hasn’t said Never Again. From Aylwin to Boric, all the Presidents in democracy have said it.»

«Those who justify the Coup lack the courage to condemn it unreservedly send a clear signal. They would do it again. We say it clearly: Never Again in Chile,» they concluded.
