Zapatista Army to Visit Mexico City in December: Over 670 Organizations Prepare for Their Reception

Approximately 670 organizations, collectives, networks, communities, and individuals have announced plans to «welcome» the delegation of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), scheduled to visit Mexico City in December 2026, as reported by La Jornada.

In a statement cited by the outlet, the groups emphasized that «we are organizing to receive them, participate, and create the necessary conditions for their stay in Mexico City and engagement with families searching for missing persons; meetings with individuals, collectives, and organizations from La Sexta; an Art and Resistance Encounter; the main march: All struggles united for a common demand: Truth and justice for the absent, and the 33rd anniversary of the Zapatista uprising.»

«This is why,» the Mexican organizations added, «we work together for the Common good, ensuring their visit is as pleasant and joyful as possible, while also facilitating conditions to connect with as many people as possible, to learn from and understand each other’s perspectives of the world, to dream and organize new horizons. In other words, we aim to share our anger, pain, resistance, and organizational experiences to collectively weather the storm imposed by the capitalist and patriarchal system.»

«We want to express that we welcome them with open hearts and the conviction of those who refuse to remain indifferent in the face of injustice,» the statement highlights.

Disappearance as a Central Theme

One of the most significant issues raised regarding this encounter is that of the disappeared. On this point, the signatory organizations echoed the EZLN’s call to elevate the question «Where are they?» as the most pressing inquiry in this wounded Mexico ravaged by violence, murders, femicides, and enforced disappearances.

In this context, they underscored «the necessity of supporting families and searching parents, as their missing individuals are also our missing, their pain is our pain.»

Among the organizations that signed the statement are the Front of Peoples in Defense of Land and Water Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala; the Front of Workers for the Right to Health and Social Security; the Organized Resistance People Front; the Assembly of Coordination of Section 10 of the CNTE of Mexico City; the Amilcingo Resistance Assembly, and the Assembly of Indigenous Peoples of the Isthmus in Defense of Land and Territory, alongside individuals such as Magdalena Gómez and Gilberto López y Rivas.
