Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the BRICS nations to firmly align themselves on the right side of history and take a leading role in maintaining peace and stability.

During his address at the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the bloc’s cooperation, Xi made it clear that the BRICS countries have the potential to pioneer initiatives for global peace.

President Xi Jinping attended the first phase of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday.
In his inaugural speech, he asserted that the BRICS cooperation mechanism has continued to evolve, becoming the most influential platform worldwide for collaboration among emerging markets and developing countries.
He emphasized that BRICS nations have pursued development paths tailored to their unique national circumstances, have collectively confronted key global challenges, and firmly safeguarded the common interests of the Global South.

He noted that the historical expansion of BRICS has ushered in a new phase of high-quality development, enhancing cooperation among member nations. Amid unprecedented changes unfolding globally, he remarked that the Global South is gaining strength, and a multipolar world is becoming an unstoppable trend.
However, he also cautioned that unilateralism and power politics are on the rise, posing significant challenges to multilateralism and the international order.

Xi urged BRICS nations to contribute to steering the international order towards greater justice and fairness, and to collaborate on building a shared future for humanity.

Xi Jinping Identified Four Areas Where BRICS Nations Should Take Initiative

He called upon member states to spearhead innovative development by enhancing cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), promoting openness, collaboration, and shared benefits.

China has proposed an initiative to harness AI to accelerate the new industrialization of BRICS, expressing its readiness to work with other members to achieve greater advancements in AI research and application.
On matters of peace and security, Xi highlighted the importance of maintaining a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security vision among BRICS nations.

He also urged resistance against Cold War mentalities and block confrontations while participating constructively in the resolution of regional conflicts.

Xi affirmed that China is prepared to collaborate with other BRICS members to play its part in fostering peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

Furthermore, Xi stressed the need for BRICS countries to promote mutual learning among civilizations, deepening cooperation in culture, tourism, and education, and strengthening exchanges among youth and ties between peoples.

Regarding global governance, he urged BRICS nations to contribute to building a fairer and more equitable global governance system, uphold the authority of the United Nations, and support the multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization at its core, while rejecting all forms of protectionism.

Xi emphasized that solidarity and cooperation have always been the source of strength for BRICS development.

He asserted that China is willing to work with all parties to reach consensus and pave the way for the future, ushering in what he described as a third «golden decade» of BRICS cooperation.

China will assume the presidency of BRICS next year and will host the 19th BRICS Summit.
