María Pía Adriasola Donates 4Runner to La Moneda, While Presidency Covers Maintenance and Operational Costs

María Pía Adriasola has generously lent her Toyota 4Runner to La Moneda, but the Presidency is responsible for its maintenance, insurance, and usage expenses.

«Approval of the free loan agreement signed between María Pía Adriasola Barroilhet and the Presidency of the Republic» is noted in exemption resolution N°539/2026 dated July 3, 2026. This document establishes that the First Lady is committed to providing La Moneda with a vehicle of her ownership designated for her transportation and security throughout her tenure, which runs until March 11, 2030, precisely when her husband José Antonio Kast’s term as president of Chile expires.

According to the document, the gratuitous loan agreement was entered into between the Presidency of the Republic and María Pía Adriasola Barroilhet on June 4, 2026, with her as the lender and the Presidency as the borrower.

The agreement outlines that one party, in this case the lender, provides the other with an asset for use without charge, with the obligation to return the same item after its usage, as stipulated in Article 2174 of the Civil Code.

Thus, Adriasola has lent her SUV vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner Limited 6241 LTD 4.0 AUT, 2018 model, in metallic black, to be utilized for her transport and security as the First Lady of the Nation. This role had been dissolved during Gabriel Boric’s first year in office by Irina Karamanos, who at that time was the president’s partner, and was reinstated by José Antonio Kast upon his arrival at La Moneda.

In fact, Kast officially restored the First Lady’s cabinet through an exemption resolution dated May 13, 2026.

Presidency Covers Maintenance, Insurance, and Usage Costs

The 4Runner will be operated by members of the Presidential Escort Group of Carabineros de Chile, and upon the end of the contract, the Presidency, as the Borrower, must return it «in perfect condition, with all its parts, pieces, and accessories, considering normal wear and tear.»

As per the agreement, there is also an obligation to «care for the delivered asset with due diligence and maintain it in perfect working condition.»

The Presidency must cover all necessary expenses for the use and maintenance of the vehicle, «including ordinary and extraordinary expenses necessary for its circulation and operation, according to the rules established for such purposes in the Civil Code.»

Furthermore, as a preventive measure against potential damages that the 4Runner might suffer and for any possible harm or damages to third parties or their property arising from its use, the Borrower commits to provide insurance coverage for the entire duration of this contract, with a premium no less than the commercial value of the vehicle and with coverage similar to that of other vehicles in the Presidential fleet.
