Vallejo Accuses Kast of Shaming Chile Globally and Blaming Others for His Governance Failures

Former Minister of the General Secretariat of Government (Segegob), Camila Vallejo, has accused José Antonio Kast of «shaming Chile before the world,» blaming others for the shortcomings and poor decisions of his administration, and subordinating the country to the interests of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The former state secretary in the government of ex-president Gabriel Boric, who is a member of the Communist Party, joined the criticism directed at Kast regarding his statements during his first address at the United Nations General Assembly, where he indicated that «Chile has stagnated» since the social upheaval of 2019 in terms of economy and security.

Through social media, the former state secretary condemned the leader of the Republican Party: «President José Antonio Kast is once again shaming Chile before the world.»

Vallejo criticized the executive’s remarks, stating that he “once again spoke poorly of our country in front of the international community,” referring to the president’s speech in which he insisted that «Chile has stagnated» after the social outbreak, both in terms of security and economy.

According to the president, «Chile made poor decisions. Public policies were implemented that increased taxes, regulations, and barriers to entrepreneurship.»

In response to these claims, the former minister lashed out at the far-right leader and stated in a social media post that «President José Antonio Kast is once again shaming Chile before the world.»

She added, «Today he spoke poorly of our country again in front of the international community, with the immaturity of someone who, after 6 months of ‘governance’, continues to blame others for his own shortcomings and poor decisions (just look at the data below) and with the lack of dignity that the office requires of someone who keeps subordinating our nation to the interests of Donald Trump,» she criticized.

To support her statements, the former minister shared data prepared with the Monetary Policy Report (IPoM) from September, from the Central Bank, the National Institute of Statistics (INE), and GfK Adimark, allowing a comparison of the country’s situation now versus a year ago.

Vallejo published a graph titled: «Chile: today vs. a year ago», showing a comparison of four indicators between 2025 and 2026.

First, the «Economic Confidence IPEC, current situation, August» shows that in 2025 it was at 33.8 and dropped to 29.2 in 2026.

The second section displays the «Real GDP Growth 2025 vs. Central Bank Projection 2026», which showed 2.5% in 2025 and a range of 0.25% to 0.75% in 2026, also decreasing.

The third section presents «Investment (FBCF) 2025 vs. Central Bank Projection 2026,» with performance of +7.0% in 2025 and -0.3% in 2026.

Finally, the graph concludes with the «Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate, quarter May-July,» indicating 8.5% for 2025 and 9.3% for 2026, also showing an increase.
