A drone filled with drugs attempting to infiltrate the La Serena Penitentiary Complex was intercepted by Gendarmería officials using an «anti-drone» technology system implemented at the correctional facility.
According to the security institution, the operation led to the recovery of the device and the seizure of 167.2 grams of cocaine base and cocaine hydrochloride.
«The load included 83.1 grams of cocaine base and 84.1 grams of cocaine hydrochloride. The latter substance was distributed in a 37.2-gram bag and four wrappers totaling 46.9 grams,» stated Gendarmería.
Meanwhile, the prison warden, Colonel Walter Navarrete Iturra, emphasized the use of technology to tackle such situations: «The staff successfully intercepted the drone and recovered the drugs, weighing and field-testing were done by officials from the Dog Training Center (ECA). After the discovery, security protocols were activated, and the device was sent for further processing,» he declared.
