Santiago, September 24, 2026 – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Chile hosted an official reception at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event brought together over 600 guests and served to highlight China’s achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, while reaffirming the strengthening of bilateral ties on the tenth anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between both nations.

The ceremony was led by the Chinese Ambassador to Chile, Niu Qingbao, and included notable officials from the Chilean Government and Congress. Attendees included Chile’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Patricio Torres; the President of the Senate, Iván Moreira; Agriculture Minister, Jaime Campos; Minister of Energy, Ximena Rincón; and Minister of Culture, Francisco Undurraga, among other dignitaries. Representatives from various sectors of Chilean society, members of the accredited diplomatic corps in the country—including U.S. Ambassador Brandon Judd—, members of the Chinese community, and delegates from Chinese enterprises and Confucius Institutes also participated.

A Speech with Geopolitical Significance

In his speech, Ambassador Niu Qingbao reviewed the significant accomplishments achieved by New China under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and its contributions to building a shared future community for humanity. The diplomat emphasized that China is eager to leverage the complementary advantages of both countries to continuously enrich the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and Chile.

The ambassador highlighted that, in developing relations between the two countries, «China has always advocated for mutual respect, equality, reciprocal benefit, cooperation, and shared development, never pursuing a ‘China first’ policy». He reiterated that «both sides respect each other and treat each other as equals» and added that «both China and Chile pursue independent and pragmatic foreign policies, without drawing ideological lines».

In the context of a growing debate about Chile’s strategic autonomy following its recent accession to the «Shield of the Americas,» an initiative led by the United States, the Chinese diplomat stressed: «We have never resorted to intimidation or coercion; we respect Chile’s friendly cooperation with all countries, and we have never asked it to take sides».

For his part, Deputy Foreign Minister Patricio Torres congratulated China on the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. He noted that China is one of Chile’s main strategic partners and highly valued the fruitful results achieved by both countries over the ten years since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also expressed Chile’s commitment to the noble task of broadening the shared path for the benefit of both peoples.

Culture and Cooperation at the Heart of the Celebration

The evening also featured a strong cultural component. Guests enjoyed performances showcasing heritage from Bashu and culinary specialties from Sichuan, presented by an artistic team from Chengdu. A Consolidated Strategic Relationship

The celebration also served to reaffirm the strengthening of bilateral ties in a key year for Sino-Chilean relations. Ambassador Niu highlighted the 20th anniversary of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both countries and the crucial role of Chinese companies in developing Chile’s digital infrastructure, thus solidifying China as a strategic partner across multiple dimensions.

The presence of high-ranking representatives from the Executive and Legislative branches, as well as former presidential candidates such as Evelyn Matthei and Jeannette Jara, and Deputy Gonzalo Winter, underscored the broad importance that Chile places on its relationship with China.

With this reception, the Chinese Embassy in Chile not only commemorated another anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China but also reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to continue deepening a strategic partnership based on mutual respect, pragmatic cooperation, and shared benefits.
