La Araucanía: Regional Government Announces New Resource Management for Communities Affected by Adverse Weather Events

The Governor of La Araucanía, René Saffirio, expressed concern over the impacts of the recent storm system affecting the region and announced efforts to secure new resources aimed at assisting communities that have experienced the most significant effects.

Curarrehue, Carahue, Gorbea, Loncoche, Pitrufquén, Toltén, Lautaro, and Angol are among the areas that have reported severe conditions due to heavy rainfall, rising water levels, flooding, and disruptions to connectivity.

«Moments ago, I concluded a meeting with the technical teams from the Regional Government to discuss the circumstances arising from the current climatic situation in La Araucanía. This will allow us to provide additional assistance to the most affected sectors,» the regional authority stated.

In this context, the Governor urged municipalities to expedite the submission of necessary documentation and requests to access new resources.

«I want to call on the municipalities of the communities that have been most affected by the rain, wind, and rising river levels to help shorten the execution time for new resources aimed at providing direct support to families and individuals most impacted,» Saffirio affirmed.

According to the information provided, the emergency resources will aid in various areas, including road rehabilitation using gravel materials, machinery rentals, and the acquisition of pipes; the cleaning of septic tanks and sewage systems impacted by stormwater; the replacement of greenhouses and sheds, along with support for small farmers; as well as the procurement of fodder, seeds, and fertilizers to revive productive activities hindered by the storm system.

«It is essential to respond swiftly to such circumstances, which we hope will ease over time. I deeply regret that our region finds itself in such a situation again, but we are prepared to react promptly to ensure that the damage does not persist, especially for the elderly, children, and residents of the most affected municipalities,» added René Saffirio.

It is important to note that La Araucanía is under a regional Yellow Alert due to the current weather situation, while the Cautín province has established Red Alerts related to the risk of river overflow, particularly from the Trancura and Liucura rivers, with advisories for evacuating riverside areas in various communities.
