Third Talk in the ‘Thinking About Sports’ Series Hosted by the Sports Library

To foster a permanent space for reflection, idea exchange, and dissemination of sports knowledge, the third talk in the ‘Thinking About Sports: Dialogues on History, Culture, and Society’ series will take place on September 30 at 6:00 PM. This free initiative, organized by the Center for Sports Studies (CEDEP) and the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile, is open to the entire community.

The third session will focus on reflecting on the concept of “Post-Football,” as discussed by writer and journalist Juan Pablo Meneses (featured in the photo) in his eponymous book.

This event will feature an interdisciplinary dialogue on how contemporary football has evolved into an individualistic practice driven by market forces and digital culture.

The author will engage in conversation with Humberto Martínez, Ph.D. in Economics from Rutgers University, New Brunswick (New Jersey), and sociologist Mauro Navarrete, who holds a Master’s in Social Sciences and is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Universidad Alberto Hurtado. The discussion will be moderated by Roberto Álvarez, a professor and Ph.D. in Management from UCLA.

First Specialized Sports Library in the Country

This series began alongside the inauguration of the Sports Library, the first specialized sports library in the country, established through a partnership between the Center for Sports Studies (CEDEP) and the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile.

Its mission is to serve as a space where reading, research, heritage, and outreach engage with the community, fostering a broader understanding of sport as a historical, cultural, and social phenomenon.

The programming includes monthly meetings during the second half of 2026, featuring researchers, writers, and experts discussing various themes related to the history, economy, sociology, and culture of sports, positioning the Sports Library as a key resource for students, academics, leaders, researchers, and the general public.

The event will be held at the Price Auditorium, located in the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile (Av. Diagonal Paraguay 257, Santiago). Attendance is free but prior registration is required. The invitation is open to the entire community.
