Original article: “Si usa parafina para calefacción, Ud NO EXISTE”: Daza ironiza luego de que Quiroz dijera que “nadie consume” en medio de alza de $281,8 por litro
«If you are one of those people using paraffin for heating these days, you DO NOT EXIST!» tweeted lawyer Mauricio Daza on the social media platform X, responding to statements made by Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, who justified the increase in fuel prices.
According to the weekly report from the National Petroleum Company (ENAP), starting this Thursday, October 1st, kerosene will see an increase of $281.8 per liter.
It is important to note that this hydrocarbon was the only one that remained without price hikes since the «gasoline increase» back in March, during which the José Antonio Kast government froze its price at around $1,000 per liter. However, after six months, the government decided to lift the freeze.
When asked about the reasons behind this change in stance, Minister Quiroz stated, «the reality is that today no one consumes kerosene, because at these temperatures, the consumption is minimal.»
Under this premise, he justified the decision from La Moneda to unfreeze the price of the fuel, leading to the price surge of kerosene as announced by ENAP.
«That is the reason why it was discontinued,» he asserted to the press from Congress.
This way, he attributed the increase to decreased demand as spring arrives and temperatures rise.
«In the case of gasoline, we have been adopting a more measured pace,» he noted.
Simultaneously, Quiroz defended the Kast administration’s handling of the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (MEPCO), stating that it avoided a fiscal expenditure of nearly $2.9 billion.
He pointed out that while the mechanism could have restrained prices, that fiscal expenditure would have been necessary to maintain those rates.
«Sometimes it’s forgotten, but if the MEPCO rules had been followed, today we would essentially have the same prices as we have now,» he emphasized.
In response to these statements, lawyer Daza strongly declared: «Let the prices rise, bring it on!!!»
