CIP Condemns Israeli Embassy in Chile for Labeling 170 Slain Palestinian Journalists as ‘Terrorists’

The Palestinian Information Center (CIP) has denounced the Israeli Embassy in Chile for spreading misinformation and for a publication that labels 170 Palestinian journalists who were killed in Gaza as «terrorists».

The diplomatic mission shared a list released by the Israeli Army containing the photographs and details of 170 «undercover journalists» who were killed during ongoing attacks in the Palestinian enclave, accusing them of being terrorists.

In a public statement, the CIP expressed its categorical rejection of that publication, condemning how a recognized diplomatic representation in Chile would exploit images of murdered communicators to turn into «official propaganda» the accusations from the same military responsible for their deaths, retrospectively criminalizing the victims and discrediting those who documented the genocide in Gaza, often at the cost of their lives.

CIP members emphasized that since October 7, 2023, Israel has kept international press access blocked, placing the burden on Gazan journalists to be the «only ones documenting» the Israeli siege under bombardments, forced displacements, starvation, and attacks against themselves and their families.

«They are precisely the ones who have allowed the world to know what is happening on the ground«, they underscored.

The CIP reminded that the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has documented at least 207 Palestinian journalists and media workers killed by Israel in Gaza through April 2026. Of these, it was determined that at least 32 were deliberately targeted in direct retaliation for their work, the highest figure attributed to any single state since records began.

The statement also highlighted that Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reported that, at least since 2023, Israel has been conducting a systematic campaign to equate «journalist» with «terrorist», using fabrications, unproven accusations, and platforms aimed at discrediting Palestinian reporters prior to or following their murders. In parallel, four United Nations special rapporteurs described this mechanism as a tactic used to conceal the crimes committed in Gaza.

For the CIP, the publication from the Israeli embassy in their country relies on a supposed «thorough investigation» conducted by the army itself and published on its official website, claiming to be based on a «wide range of intelligence sources».

The Palestinian organization warns of a clear conflict of interest: the same military accused of killing pretends to act as investigator, judge, and party to its own crimes. The «evidence» presented is alarmingly precarious: photographic comparisons of dubious reliability and files of slain journalists with names, media outlets, and alleged affiliations, lacking independent or verifiable backgrounds.

The text adds that Israel has attempted to justify these murders by labeling communicators as militants of armed organizations. The CPJ reviewed 18 of these cases and concluded that the Israeli Army did not provide sufficient or reliable evidence; when documentation was provided, its authenticity or reliability was questioned through external analysis. RSF reaches a similar conclusion: it records over 220 journalists killed, with at least 70 of them due to their work.

The organization expressed deep concern that this information is being reproduced without proper scrutiny and, in this context, issued a call for journalists and media to carry out their work with rigor, to contrast sources, and not to uncritically reproduce claims made by the very authorities responsible for the offensive.

«Israeli official information has been questioned and disproved repeatedly over the years. In a scenario marked by misinformation and post-truth, uncritically reproducing this type of content contributes to creating justifications for crimes committed against the civilian population,» they warned.
