Chile Joins Global Movement Supporting Palestine Amid Humanitarian Crisis
As part of an international call issued by the Global Alliance for Palestine, a March Against Genocide will take place this Saturday, October 10, in Santiago, starting at 12 PM from U. Católica Metro station and concluding at Los Héroes.
The event has been organized by the Solidarity for Palestine group at the University of Chile and the Federation of Students of the University of Chile (FECH).
«The aim is to gather student, social, labor, community, and solidarity organizations in response to the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and the rising violence from settlers, demolitions, and displacements in occupied West Bank,» stated the organizations.
So far, dozens of groups have announced their participation, including the Confederation of Chilean Students (Confech), the 8M Feminist Coordinator, the Palestinian Community of Chile, and the Palestinian Information Center.
FECH President Laura Mlynarz emphasized, «International solidarity is crucial in the current context where the U.S. aims to turn Latin America back into its backyard, and the self-determination of peoples and sovereign autonomy seem no longer part of minimum agreements among nations.»
International Call
The Global Alliance for Palestine has planned marches, student protests, workplace actions, and other coordinated forms of protest in cities across Asia, America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The demands from this alliance include: an arms embargo on Israel; tightening sanctions; and suspension of trade agreements; among other pressure measures aimed at demanding political and institutional accountability for Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In Chile, home to the largest Palestinian community outside the Arab world, organizations are focused on keeping Palestine in the public eye and on the streets amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the Israeli siege.
To this end, the Santiago march will feature various professional and student blocs, including journalists, doctors, and lawyers who will show solidarity with their Palestinian counterparts and honor the victims.
Before the march begins at 12 PM, the different blocs will hold a press briefing outside the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM).

Current Context in Palestine
Since October 2023, the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip has led to unprecedented material and human devastation in contemporary history. The Gaza Health Ministry reports over 74,000 Palestinians have been killed.
However, studies published in The Lancet have estimated significantly higher figures for various periods of the offensive, warning that the official records have downplayed the scale of the casualties.
Additionally, hundreds of thousands have been injured in a context where the healthcare system has completely collapsed, with Israeli attacks damaging or destroying over 80% of civilian infrastructure.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that by September 2026, over 1,600 attacks from Israeli settlers had been recorded, resulting in Palestinian casualties, property damage, or both.
Similarly, more than 4,000 Palestinians have been displaced in the West Bank due to demolitions, evictions, settler attacks, and access restrictions.
