Recently, Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier published their ranking of the top 2% of the most cited scientists globally. As in previous years, four researchers from Austral University of Chile are included in this prestigious list.
The distinguished academics recognized are Dr. Jorge Arenas from the Faculty of Engineering Sciences; Dr. Mario Simirgiotis from the Faculty of Sciences; Dr. Mauro González from the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Resources; and Dr. Rafael Burgos from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences.
This ranking assesses research impact using citation data from an entire career and from a single year across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields to ensure fair and comprehensive representation. The selection metric, a composite indicator, considers citation counts, adjustments for co-authorship, and author positions, focusing on significant impact rather than mere productivity.
The Director of Research at the Vice-Rectorate for Research, Development, and Artistic Creation at the university, Dr. Andrea Piñones, stated, «It is a source of pride that academics from Austral University of Chile are again part of this top 2% ranking of the most cited scientists worldwide. This showcases the high-quality frontier research being conducted at UACh.»
