Original article: Sheinbaum destapa denuncia contra Cerimedo: el operador de la ultraderecha habría buscado «reventarla» políticamente
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has revealed a complaint against Fernando Cerimedo, asserting that the political operator of the far-right in Latin America allegedly aimed to «take her down» politically as part of a purported scheme to interfere in the country’s elections.
During her morning press conference on Monday, the leader presented a clip from an interview with Bolivian lawyer Nadia Beller, Cerimedo’s ex-partner, who survived an attempted murder for which the consultant has been charged by Bolivian authorities with the alleged crime of “attempted feminicide,” accused of supposedly sending “hitmen” to kill her.
In addition, the prosecuting agency has opened three other cases against the Argentine advisor for money laundering, domestic violence, and suspected involvement in drug trafficking-related flights.
«He told me he was going to participate in the Mexican elections [Cerimedo]. That he would have his own candidate because they were very interested in removing the woman from the presidency,» Beller stated during the interview broadcast this past Sunday on Canal Catorce, part of Mexico’s Public Broadcasting System, on the show Ventana al mundo.
In the same conversation, Beller added that Cerimedo did not disclose who his candidate would be, but he did hint that he would «take down» President Sheinbaum, «in the sense that he was going to participate in that campaign.»
She noted that the former advisor to the leaders of Argentina, Javier Milei; Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz; and Honduras, Nasry Asfuera, «had a very strong grudge against her (Sheinbaum).»
The lawyer did not specify whether Cerimedo’s far-right plans for intervention in Mexico targeted the 2030 elections, which will elect Sheinbaum’s successor, or whether it indicated an attempt at an overthrow in possible early elections. This uncertainty is significant because the Mexican Constitution strictly prohibits presidential re-election: the president serves a single term of six years, with no possibility of running again, a measure established 109 years ago, in 1917.
Beller also mentioned that Cerimedo sold his shares in La Derecha Diario, an ultraconservative media outlet run by Spanish journalist Javier Negre, due to issues related to his divorce. However, she noted that he was reportedly upset about the conflict between his former associate and Sheinbaum over mutual political accusations, which intensified in August 2026, and that he was being dragged into those disputes.
«According to him [Cerimedo], he had nothing to do with that fight. However, he did mention his interest in the elections in Mexico. How do they participate in the elections? As you mentioned before. With distortion of public debate, cognitive frauds, dirty campaigning, buying influencers, with their bot farms coordinating attacks, trending topics, all that which distorts the public debate,» expressed the Bolivian lawyer.
Cerimedo and the “Distortion of Public Debate” in Mexico
Following the interview clip, the Mexican president linked these statements to her allegations regarding the “distortion of public debate.”
“Now I am not saying it,” she asserted in statements reported by El País.
It is important to recall that since November 2025, when a Generation Z march took place, a «coordinated digital strategy» came to light, involving social media accounts and figures linked to opposition and international right-wing groups, as well as bots, influencers, and businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, aiming to destabilize Sheinbaum’s government and promote U.S. interventionism in Mexico’s internal affairs.
Subsequently, last September, the president suggested that Congress could investigate the actions taken by Cerimedo and his partner from La Derecha Diario, Javier Negre, to determine if the Argentine consultant and his network have influenced public opinion through social media.
During the morning conference, Sheinbaum recalled that both political operators have acknowledged that they «influence on social media against the president of Mexico,» and that Nadia Beller had previously stated that her ex-partner was going to “end” her politically.
