Richarlison Claims Flávio Bolsonaro Illegally Seized His Luxury Island Property
«@flaviobolsonaro, Where is my island?» This was the message posted on his Instagram account by Richarlison, the Brazilian national team star, accusing Flávio Bolsonaro of stealing a multimillion-dollar property.
The Tottenham striker claimed that the far-right presidential candidate and his associate, lawyer Willer Tomaz, took control of an island in Angra dos Reis within 24 hours.
Richarlison revealed that between 2020 and 2021, he and two partners invested nearly 10 million reais (over 1 billion Chilean pesos) in purchasing Ilha Comprida, an island featuring a mansion, a helipad, and a private beach in Angra dos Reis, a luxury resort territory off the southern coastline of Rio de Janeiro.
Subsequently, several buyers, including the senator and presidential candidate from the Liberal Party, expressed interest in acquiring the island. «He even used a drone to film the island from above, and there’s a video of it on his Instagram,» he emphasized.
The footballer rejected the idea of selling the property and indicated that while he was processing the ownership documents through the courts, the far-right politician and his friend took over the island in just 24 hours.
«We were processing the documentation (the ownership papers), and they told us it would take months or even years to resolve it. Flávio Bolsonaro and a man named Willian Tomaz went there and took possession of the island within 24 hours. This is where the judicial system failed,» he explained.
Currently, property rights are held by a company affiliated with William Tomaz, a friend of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son, prompting the striker to call on the Federal Police to intervene and investigate the illegal appropriation.
Tomaz is under investigation for the so-called Operation Sem Desconto (Without Discount), which looks into unauthorized discounts affecting retirees and pensioners from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Investigators allege that this scheme may have diverted over 6 billion reais in five years. The Federal Police suspects that the lawyer may have moved money from this fraud and is also exploring whether he used online betting to launder the funds: he allegedly moved close to 5 billion reais on betting platforms in 2025 alone.
According to a document from the investigation released by O Globo, Flávio Bolsonaro was documented as the «master user» of the account at Banco Santander belonging to Alcazar Holdings, a company managed by Tomaz. For investigators, this access could indicate potential financial or partnership involvement.
Additionally, a company linked with Tomaz and owning a betting house financed private jet flights for Bolsonaro and his family around Europe in 2025. According to the far-right candidate, his relationship with the lawyer is purely friendly, and associating it with irregularities is just «mere speculation.»
Amid the controversy, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is seeking reelection and will face Bolsonaro in the runoff on October 25, expressed his support for Richarlison.
«This young man bought it for 10 million reais and suddenly saw the island disappear. The lawyer Willer Tomaz and Flávio Bolsonaro went to his island, filmed it with drones, and filed a claim with the Union’s Heritage Secretariat in Rio de Janeiro alleging ownership,» he stated in a video shared on social media.
«I am asking the Federal Police to investigate to find out where this trickery was done,« he asserted in comments reported by Tycsports.
For his part, the forward made it clear that «I am not seeking to recover the island, but my money» and added that if he can obtain it, he intends to donate part of it to the hospital in his hometown of Nova Venécia, located in the state of Espírito Santo.
