Original article: Suspenden servicio de trenes entre Rancagua y San Fernando tras intenso tornado: Se reportaron múltiples daños
The suspension of train services between Rancagua and San Fernando is one of the many effects caused by the intense tornado that struck on Monday, October 26, in the O’Higgins Region.
The meteorological phenomenon lasted approximately 15 minutes, and preliminary classifications suggest it was an EF-2 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with estimated wind speeds ranging from 179 to 218 km/h.
EFE Central reported that «due to the tornado that affected the O’Higgins Region, noted in the Rosario area, there were various impacts on the railway infrastructure between Rancagua and San Fernando».
Among the damages reported by EFE were «interruptions in electrical supply, fallen poles, and the presence of trees and structural elements on the overhead wires (catenary), as well as damages to railway poles».
This situation «forced the suspension of train traffic on both tracks of the affected section for Monday and Tuesday, October 27,» with no estimated time for service normalization.
