Senator Ibáñez Calls for Commitment from Economy Undersecretary Amid San Antonio Truckers’ Strike
In the midst of the ongoing conflict faced by the Independent Truckers Association of San Antonio (Agreporsai), Frente Amplio Senator Diego Ibáñez has urged Economy Undersecretary Karlfranz Koehler to «fulfill the promise made to us in March when we visited La Moneda regarding the fuel price increase.»
The senator recalled that during that meeting, «the Economy Undersecretary promised to come to the community to meet with leaders and work to improve container transport rates. This never happened; diesel prices continued to rise, and now they want to impose tolls at the southern access of Route 78,» questioned Ibáñez.
«Today, unemployment has reached a historic 9.8%, yet the government continues to raise the cost of living while lowering taxes for large economic groups,» the legislator added, describing it as «deeply unfair that small transporters have to bear the burden of the government’s poor decisions, with promised solutions that are not delivered.»
«The mobilization is legitimate. I fully support the demands of the truckers from San Antonio,» Ibáñez stated, reiterating his call for the government authorities «to engage with the leaders and resolve this conflict with real measures, not just promises from the capital.»
«San Antonio contributes significantly to Chile, serving as the main entry and exit point for our trade, yet its workers face abusive charges and indifference,» emphasized the senator representing the Valparaíso Region.
