In a conversation with Turno, former minister and ex-deputy Camila Vallejo addressed the current situation in the Ministry of Justice regarding the reduction of sentences for offenders and child abusers, pointing to the political responsibility of President José A. Kast.
«If there is a real political responsible, it is President Kast who has chosen to continue supporting the Minister of Justice, despite all the evidence that has come to light,» Vallejo stated in the online program.
The ex-minister recalled that «for less serious reasons, ministers have been removed; we saw the case of the Minister of Sports who was dismissed for misusing a government vehicle, and in this case, for releasing pedophiles, they have not applied the same standard.»
For Vallejo, this «is the political responsibility of the President of the Republic.» Keeping the minister in office legitimizes the erroneous legal argument used publicly by the Minister of Justice, allowing criminal defendants to exploit this argument in the justice system. This precedent poses a serious threat to the entire justice framework.
