President Gabriel Boric Font led the launch of the 2025–2026 Action Plan for the prevention, mitigation, and control of wildfires, backed by a CLP 160 billion budget.

“Preventing wildfires is a task that involves all of us. Since the start of our administration, we have increased the budget in this area by 113%, which has translated into doubling the number of communities prepared for prevention,” the president said.

“The coming season will be difficult, but the State is increasingly better prepared,” Boric added, noting that “prevention is a duty and a shared responsibility, because, as we have said year after year, 99% of fires are caused by humans.”

President Boric’s appeal to the public: “Please, let’s all take care. We can prevent wildfires—once one breaks out, it’s too late for regrets. As a State, we have done everything within our reach to prevent them, but we depend on looking out for one another.”

For her part, Agriculture Minister Ignacia Fernández highlighted the progress achieved in nearly four years of government: “For the 2021–2022 season there was an available budget of CLP 75 billion. Today we have more than CLP 160 billion to fight wildfires, which represents an increase of over 110% in available resources,” she detailed.

According to the minister, this is evident “in very concrete terms, such as having a larger number of brigades. We went from 252 established brigades to 319. Aircraft increased from 62 to 77. In prevention, technical teams rose from 155 to 229 people, which means a 48% increase in technical staff dedicated to prevention tasks.”
