In a public statement, the Communist and Independents Committee dismissed the «unfounded accusations and slanderous implications» made by the Republican Party against Deputy Ana María Gazmuri of Humanist Action. This came in response to her oversight of the demolition orders affecting homes in El Olivar, Viña del Mar.
«We categorically reject the attempt to equate oversight, requesting information, visiting an area, or listening to affected families with defending corporate interests,» the bloc stated initially.
«This caricature is false, irresponsible, and aims to divert attention from what truly matters: a dignified, safe, and transparent reconstruction for those who lost their homes in the megafire,» they added.
They emphasized that «Deputy Ana María Gazmuri does not defend companies. She defends families, the congressional oversight duty, the right to know all relevant information, and the need for public decisions to be made with clear reports, institutional responsibility, and respect for the affected individuals.»
For the PC and Independents Committee, «if there were construction failures, they must be investigated. If there were conflicts of interest, they must be addressed. If companies, officials, or authorities acted outside the law, they must be held accountable.»
Concerning Precedent
Furthermore, the opposing bloc warned that «the accusations attempting to tarnish Deputy Gazmuri are a concerning precedent: knowing they are false, they are planted in the media to delegitimize and damage the credibility and honor of our fellow deputy.»
«In response to this despicable action, we will consider all political, institutional, and legal measures to curb the well-known policy of ‘lying just to leave an impression,’ which is the constant practice of this ultraright party,» the statement emphasizes, adding that «the far right seeks to conceal the lack of progress made by their government in both reconstruction and transparency of management; they are the dark players, engaged in political and media maneuvers to divert attention from the poor performance of their ministers.»
«That is why we reject any attempt to impede or delegitimize the Housing Commission’s visit to El Olivar. If the decisions made are sound and the information is clear, no one should fear on-site oversight,» reiterated the parliamentarians of the PC and Independents.
Harassment by Poduje
The PC-Independents Committee’s statement also addressed the announcement made by Deputy Gazmuri regarding her intention to file a complaint under the Karin Law against Housing Minister Iván Poduje, who, she claims, has been harassing her over this issue.
«Regarding the improper communications received by the deputy in connection with this controversy, the evidence has already been provided to the relevant authorities. Political or technical differences do not justify pressures, insinuations, or attempts to intimidate the exercise of parliamentary duties,» commented the opposing bloc.
