Socialist Party Critiques Kast’s Administration as a «Total Failure» Following Cabinet Reshuffle

The Socialist Party’s Senate group labeled the recent actions of José Antonio Kast’s government as a «total failure,» following the recent cabinet reshuffle that saw the dismissal of former ministers Trinidad Steinert, Minister of Security, and Mara Sedini, spokesperson for La Moneda.

In a series of harsh statements, Socialist lawmakers targeted what they see as a lack of planning and political acumen in critical areas, asserting that the far-right leader’s administration has exhibited erratic, contradictory, and content-deficient governance in its initial 68 days.

The leader of the Socialist caucus, Senator Juan Luis Castro, emphasized that the exit of both government secretaries should not be interpreted as a quick and decisive shift on Kast’s part, but rather as evidence of a foundational failure.

«There was no capacity, no coherent message, and a lack of expertise. This clearly demonstrates the improvisation and lack of skill in the government’s setup,» he stated, reiterating that the ministerial change reflects the administration’s inability to manage two crucial areas: domestic security and strategic communication.

«We Saw a Spokesperson Who Was Mute»

Meanwhile, the president of the Socialist Party, Senator Paulina Vodanovic, elaborated on the criticisms regarding the performance of the now former spokesperson Mara Sedini, whom she characterized as a figure lacking the necessary communication leadership required for her role.

«We saw a spokesperson who was mute, who did not speak, who fled, who did not communicate,» Vodanovic declared, adding that the government had “experimented with profiles unfit for the position.”

Regarding Steinert, the senator warned that «security cannot be improvised,» stressing that the country needs genuine experience in a position that is “so sensitive for families living under the threats of drug trafficking and violence.”

«A Security Minister Without a Security Plan Was Inconsequential»

The theme of improvisation was echoed by Senator Daniella Cicardini, who said the dismissal of the former ministers “was expected.”

In her view, the administration has accumulated over two months of «improvisation, contradictions, much noise, and little substance.»

«A security minister without a security plan was incredibly inconsequential; and a spokesperson who could not communicate also reflected a government lacking in substance,» she stated.

Senator Gastón Saavedra criticized the government’s political management and the lack of experience among appointed officials.

«Politics is not for interns; they barely made it through the first trimester,» he commented in statements reported by Diario U. de Chile.

He also linked the removal of the Security Minister with a complete absence of a roadmap on the matter. «There simply was no security plan for the country,» he asserted, adding a warning about the economic impact he believes is already being felt from Kast’s governance in its first two months.

The criticisms from the Socialist caucus not only target the outgoing figures but also the very structure of decision-making within Kast’s government, which they allege started its management without the necessary resources to address Chile’s needs.
