After recent revelations by the newspaper La Segunda, which reported that Security Minister Trinidad Steinert has a business partnership with a lawyer (her ex-husband) who defended a drug trafficker, the official defended herself by stating that this partnership «never had any activity.»
However, a follow-up article from the same outlet on May 4 indicated that Steinert’s statement «is not accurate,» as «Yunque Limitada did have activity.»
According to the publication, the partnership «submitted accounting records to the Internal Revenue Service (SII) in 2002,» information that can be found on the SII website.
«This action entails filing taxes and submitting a company’s accounting information to the SII,» the report noted.
«Clarify the Situation»
In light of this new information, Senator Daniel Núñez (PC) urged the minister to clarify the statement published by La Segunda: «You claimed that your partnership with your ex-husband had no activity, but there are records at the SII,» the legislator stated.
The Senator then asserted that «your controversies in the media cannot overshadow your role in security,» reiterating that «organized crime and illicit economies must not infiltrate the State.»
It is worth noting that Minister Steinert announced her intention to file a defamation lawsuit against Senator Núñez following comments made by the legislator after the news of this «undeclared» partnership with her ex-husband surfaced.
