Survey Reveals 67% Distrust in President Kast’s Campaign Promises

The Public Policy Study Center (CEP) revealed that a 67% of respondents expressed low or no confidence in José Antonio Kast fulfilling the promises he made during his election campaign.

The National Public Opinion Study No. 96, conducted from April to May 2026, examined the citizen perception of the far-right president and his administration.

When asked: How much trust do you have that President José Antonio Kast will keep his campaign promises?, 39% of respondents indicated they have little trust in Kast fulfilling his commitments, while 28% stated they have no trust at all.

On the other hand, 21% reported having considerable confidence in Kast’s ability to keep his promises, while 10% indicated they feel high confidence. Meanwhile, 2% responded that they don’t know or did not answer the question.

This majority of negative responses and high levels of distrust align with the fact that the government had to abandon two of its main economic promises: just 24 hours after acknowledging it would not achieve fiscal balance during its tenure, Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz confirmed before the Senate Finance Commission that it also would not meet the promised 4% growth target.

Kast’s Disapproval Reaches 52%

According to the measurement conducted by the Public Policy Study Center (CEP) between April 18 and May 27, 2026, with a sample of 1,469 individuals aged 18 and older, interviewed in person across 122 communes in the country, the majority is critical of Kast’s leadership since he took office on March 11.

When asked: «Regardless of their political stance, do you approve or disapprove of how José Antonio Kast is conducting his government?», 52% of respondents replied that they disapprove of his management, while 34% expressed approval. Meanwhile, 9% responded that they neither approve nor disapprove, and 5% stated they don’t know or didn’t answer.

51% Believes Kast Lacks Willingness for Dialogue and Agreements with Opposition

The survey also revealed that 51% of citizens think the far-right leader is unwilling to listen and reach agreements with the opposition. Conversely, 44% believe he is, while 5% indicated they don’t know or did not answer the question.

41% Opposes Reducing Public Spending to Improve Finances

In light of the scenario of budget cuts to various ministries and the austerity measures implemented by Kast against social programs, 41% of survey respondents expressed disagreement with the government’s strategy to reduce public spending to improve the financial situation, while 34% support such measures. Meanwhile, 21% were neutral and 4% stated they don’t know or didn’t respond.

According to the technical report, the survey has a margin of error of ±2.8%, a confidence level of 95%, and a response rate of 62.2%.
