The Termómetro Pyme study for the first half of 2026 reported a significant 60% drop in sales for June, marking the highest level recorded this year.
This report is produced by the business community Propyme alongside DefensaDeudores.cl, based on a survey conducted with 2,176 small enterprises.
According to the findings, the June index indicated that businesses have ceased seeking credit, turning to factoring, and injecting personal funds into their operations because they «no longer have resources to sustain their business.»
For instance, the sales decline escalated from 41% in January to 60% in June, «without showing signs of reversal.»
Another detail highlighted that the proportion of business owners using personal funds to finance their operations increased from 57% in January to 73% in May, dropping to 68% in June; this decline is attributed to many owners lacking further personal capital to invest.
The rising fuel prices were also mentioned, with 85% acknowledging they have been impacted by price increases that began in March.
Additionally, the report emphasized that «financial stress» extends to tax and pension obligations, as debts with the Treasury General of the Republic (TGR) increased from 31% in January to 39% in June, according to the Termómetro Pyme.
Regarding the deferral of VAT payments, it rose from 26% to 29% during the January-June period, peaking at 33% in May. Meanwhile, the failure to pay contributions rose from 22% in January to a high of 30% in May, falling back to 23% in June.
