Original article: Tras perder elección, Flavio Bolsonaro tuvo que entregar pasaporte a la policía: Está investigado por lavado de dinero, evasión de divisas y corrupción
Following his election defeat to Lula, right-wing politician Flavio Bolsonaro was compelled to surrender his passport to Brazilian authorities, as he stated in a video shared on social media, describing the situation as «an aberration».
It is important to note that Flavio Bolsonaro, a sitting senator, is under investigation for alleged money laundering, currency evasion, and both active and passive corruption. With his recent electoral defeat, he will lose parliamentary immunity in February 2027 when his term ends.
«This morning, I visited my father; as you know, he is under house arrest. Upon leaving, the Federal Police from Lula’s administration were at his front door, and right in the street, they informed me of the order to surrender my passports. I was also prohibited from leaving the country,» the former candidate stated, reaffirming that he «never thought about leaving the country».
According to Brazilian media reports, the order for Bolsonaro’s passport surrender came from Alexandre de Moraes, a minister in the Federal Supreme Court, based on comments made by his brother Eduardo on October 23, where he suggested that «Flavio should leave Brazil if he lost the elections».
Indeed, in light of these remarks, three lawmakers (Rogério Correia of the Workers’ Party, Duda Salabert of the Socialism and Liberty Party, and Otoni de Paula of the Social Democratic Party) had previously requested the judiciary to retain Flavio Bolsonaro’s passport due to the evident flight risk.
«The next move of this criminal is to try to flee Brazil so as not to face the various investigations against him,» wrote Congresswoman Salabert on her social media.
Two Investigations Underway
According to reports from international agencies gathered by the Spanish outlet La Sexta, «the senator (Bolsonaro) is formally under investigation in two Supreme Court proceedings. One involves the financing of ‘Dark Horse,’ a film about Jair Bolsonaro’s political career, examining potential irregularities in the multimillion-dollar sponsorship that the far-right candidate sought from Daniel Vorcaro, a former controller of Banco Master who is currently imprisoned for his involvement in what is considered the largest financial fraud in the country.»
In this context, the Federal Police are investigating possible crimes of money laundering, currency evasion, and corruption.
«The senator admitted to discussions with Vorcaro but claimed it was a private sponsorship and denied offering any advantages in exchange. At the senator’s request, the banker transferred approximately 12.3 million dollars to an account in the United States belonging to associates of the Bolsonaro family, but it remains unclear whether the funds were intended for the film’s production,» the report adds.
Meanwhile, the second investigation focuses on «suspicion of money laundering in operations linked to lawyer Willer Tomaz, with whom the opposition leader has personal and financial ties. The police have identified records of travel, meetings, and financial transactions that are currently being analyzed by investigators,» the information specifies.
