«Aggression and deceit of the U.S. government will clash with our determination to confront the worst scenarios and resist imperial advancement.» This statement, made by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on social media platform X, encapsulates Havana’s response to the ongoing aggression from Washington.

The president condemned the «new threatening statements» made by U.S. President Donald Trump and the inclusion of his name, along with his family, leaders, organizations, and Cuban companies, on a sanction list from the Treasury Department.

Díaz-Canel, who also serves as the first secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party, labeled this action as an act of «political blindness», adding it to a series of coercive measures recently directed at the people of the Latin American nation. He explained that all these maneuvers aim to «reinforce the blockade measures» and create conflict between Cuba and the United States.

Unity and Determination in the Face of Threats to Independence and Sovereignty

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla echoed the presidential stance with a message on the same digital platform. «The vile inclusion of President Díaz-Canel and part of his family, along with institutions, civil society organizations, and Cuban companies on an illegitimate and unilateral list by the U.S. government is the latest demonstration of the U.S. interventionist plan to portray Cuba as a threat to national security,» he asserted.

The Cuban diplomat stated that every U.S. action aimed at constructing a conflict scenario between the two nations «is destined to fail». He further indicated that each threat against the island’s independence and sovereignty will elicit greater unity and determination from our people.

Trump Enforces Sanctions to «Dismantle» the Cuban Government

The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has made the sanctioned list public. In addition to President Miguel Díaz-Canel, it includes his wife, Lis Cuesta Peraza, and their son, Manuel Anido Cuesta. Other notable figures include Alejandro Castro Espín—son of Army General Raúl Castro—and the grandson of the revolutionary leader, Raúl Alejandro Castro Calis. Institutional measures also target the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples, and the travel agency Amistur Cuba SA.

From the White House, Donald Trump justified the offensive by claiming that his administration seeks to «dismantle the regime» and change the political situation in the largest of the Antilles.

«We have some very good plans for Cuba,» asserted the Republican magnate to the press, also boasting about the impact of the energy blockade imposed on the island in January, which imposes tariffs on any country that sells or provides fuel to Havana, causing power outages and affecting key sectors.

In the face of this siege, Havana insists on the resilience and determination of a people that has learned to resist constant harassment.
